In 2024-2029, the Business Competition Supervisory Commission (KPPU) is focusing on monitoring business competition in sectors with the lowest business competition index in the last five years, newly inaugurated Chair Fanshurullah Asa has said.

“The first is energy and mineral resources sector, especially in mining, gas, and electricity, and construction sector. This will be one of our targets in our first 100 days. We will supervise the sectors properly to prevent monopoly, which creates inefficiency that burdens the public,” he said in his press statement following the inauguration of nine members of the KPPU at the State Palace in Jakarta, Thursday (01/18).

Furthermore, Fanshurullah stated that supervisory of digital markets and food [sector] remains the KPPU’s main focus.

“The KPPU has properly supervised digital markets as well as food security. It is important that we supervise food [sector] so that there is no monopoly,” he said while underscoring that in accordance with legal provisions, the KPPU reaffirms its commitment to protecting the public interest, making the national economy efficient, and bringing welfare to the people of Indonesia.

“Businesspeople, you are welcome to run your business and compete properly. However, please do maintain the competition healthy. Do not become a monopoly that causes inefficiency to businesses in your respective sector,” he remarked. (KS/UN) (DH/MMB)
