General Elections Commission (KPU) Head Husni Kamil Manik accompanied by the Head of Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) and Election Organization Ethics Council (DKPP) delivered a press statement, at the Presidential Office, Jakarta, on Tuesday (3/11)

To welcome regional elections simultaneously conducted on 9 December 2015, General Election Commission (KPU) planned to hold an international event that will involve a number of foreign monitoring bodies, including general election monitoring institutions of friendly countries, representative office of friendly countries in Jakarta, and national institutions interested in the elections.

“We’re going to present it in an event called ‘election visit’ to the regional election,” General Elections Commission (KPU) Head Husni Kamil Manik said to the reporters after, together with Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) and Election Organization Ethics Council (DKPP), meeting President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, at the State Palace in Jakarta, on Tuesday (3/11) morning.

According to Husni, KPU suggested the President to officially launch the opening of the election visit at the State Palace.

The event, Husni said, was scheduled to be held on 8 December and would be in the forms of an inauguration and workshop.

Then, on 9 December, the delegation will visit the nearest polling stations from Jakarta, which is in Depok regional election (West Java) and South Tangerang (Banten).

“Furthermore, there will be a discussion to evaluate the implementation on the ground,” Husni said.

In the meantime, responding the reporters question regarding a lack of appreciation from the people on regional elections which have started its campaign, General Elections Commission (KPU) Head Husni Kamil Manik said that his office would make use of the remaining time, which is around 1 month, to conduct dissemination with the so-called ‘direct selling strategy’.

“The Subdistrict Polling Committee (PPK) and Polling Committee (PPS) officers are now targeting public figures at district, village, and sub district levels. Once Polling Station Working Committees (KPPS) will be established at the end of November, they will directly meet voters in their residences due to an obligation to inform them regarding C6 form, ”Husni said, adding that officials of KPPS will not only distribute notification letter to the people but also have a dialog to ensure everyone is well-informed about the elections.

Husni hopes that the Goverment would support it.

He also said that every government office would also participate  in the dissemination to further enliven the elections.

Head of General Elections Commission (KPU) also believes that in another 2 (two) weeks, the action that could attract people’s attention will show because the implementation of regional election will enter the last stage. He also estimated that during the remaining time, the candidates and election committee will take advantage of the time to enliven the election. (UN/AGG/ES) (RAS/EP/YM/Naster)
