Chairperson of the General Election Commission (KPU) Arief Budiman on Monday (11/11) at the Merdeka Palace reported the result of the evaluation of April’s simultaneous elections to President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.

Arief explained that in line with Law Number 7 of 2017, the KPU is obliged to report the implementation of the presidential and legislative elections to the President and the House of Representatives (DPR).

“Today, we fulfill the obligation and after this we will report it to the DPR,” Arief told reporters after the meeting.

Arief went on to say that the KPU will also report to other related institutions, including the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR), the Regional House of Representatives (DPD), relevant ministries, the National Police, the National Defense Forces (TNI), and partners of the KPU.

“We need to submit this report as materials for other parties to evaluate, to provide inputs, as well as to determine the future steps for the KPU to hold better elections in the future,” Arief said.

Several important points reported to the President, Arief added, were related to the implementation of the overall stages on elections that proceeded well.

The KPU also reported the rising number of female candidates and their electability in the 2019 elections and the budget use provided by the state in 3 fiscal years (2017, 2018 and 2019) estimated to reach 86.33% of the total budget needed for the elections.

“We also report voter turnout trend in the 2019 elections that increased significantly compared to that in the previous elections. From 1999 to 2014, the trend tended to decline; yet the 2019 elections saw a 7% increase of voter turnout compared to that in 2014 elections,” Arief said. (RAF/JAY/ES)
