Ahead of 74th celebration of Indonesia’s independence this month, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has called on the nation to be grateful for God’s blessings.

“We should be grateful for all the God’s blessings on us, including the blessing of unity, Ukhuwah Islamiyah (Islamic brotherhood), and Ukhuwah Wathaniyah (national brotherhood), as well as the blessing of all the advancements achieved by our country and all the people,” President Jokowi said during a national prayer event to commemorate 74th celebration of Indonesian independence at the Courtyard of the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Thursday (1/8).

According to the President, Indonesia is a great nation and the people must have big ideas and big dreams. However, as a great nation, Indonesia should also prepare itself to face great issues and challenges ahead, he added.

Therefore, President Jokowi called on the Indonesian people to strengthen unity and brotherhood. “By strengthening our unity and brotherhood, we can look to the future with optimism,” he said.

On that occasion, the President also invited the participants to pray for the country in facing every problem and challenge, as well as to realize Indonesia’s dreams that were made 74 years ago. “Let us maintain our local wisdom as a nation with a noble culture,” he said. (MAY/AGG/ES)
