Idul Adha is a moment to share and help others, according to President Joko ”Jokowi” Widodo.

The President made the statement after performing Idul Adha prayer at Tegar Beriman Square, Bogor, West Java, Wednesday (22/8).

On the occasion, the President also invited people to help the victims of quake that rocked the resort island of Lombok in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) province.

“I invite everyone to share with and to help others, particularly the victims of Lombok quake in West Nusa Tenggara,” the President said, adding that he also invited people to donate some of their wealth to help the victims.

“I also ask all of us on this Idul Adha holiday to give a little help to our brothers and sisters who are affected by the disaster in Lombok and in NTB in general,” the President added.

President Jokowi performed Idul Adha accompanied by Coordinator of Special Staff to the President Teten Masduki and Acting West Java Governor M. Iriawan.  The prayers were led by KH Zainal Abidin, and the sermon was given by KH Muhammad Suhendra.

After the prayer, President Jokowi handed over a cattle weighing 1.3 tons to Baitul Faizin Mosque for animal sacrifice ceremony.

Idul Adha is the commemoration of willingness of Ibrahim, or Abraham, to sacrifice his son on God’s command. Muslims mark the holiday by slaughtering animals such as sheep and goats. The meat is shared among family and friends and also donated to the poor. The festival comes as the annual Haj pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia draws to a close.  (*/ES) (RI/EP/Naster)
