It is important to check vehicle readiness and riding equipment before riding a motorcycle, President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo said.

“Helmet must also be used,” President Jokowi said in his remarks on the Millennial Road Safety Festival event, at Palembang, South Sumatra, Saturday (9/3).

For the safety measures, the President advised motorcyclists to wear shoes. “Make sure to bring your driving license and vehicle registration before leaving,” he added.

“Mobile phones usage while driving is forbidden, it is very dangerous,” President Jokowi firmly said.

When driving, the President continued, we must remember that our family waited at home so that we need to be careful before and while driving.

“Traffic accidents are the number five cause of death in the world,” President Jokowi reminded.

The use of jackets and gloves is also advised by the President. “A jacket and gloves will protect you from wind and injuries,” he said.

“Lastly, please obey the traffic rules,” President Jokowi concluded.

Also accompanying the President on the occasion were, among others, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi, Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono, and South Sumatra Governor Herman Deru. (UN/EN)
