The Indonesian founding fathers have left us Pancasila (the Five Principles, the Indonesian state ideology) and the 1945 Constitution, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung has said.

According to Pramono, those legacies are enough to be a reason for us to overcome laziness and pessimism as well as to catch up with other countries.

“The awakening must be interpreted as what we will do to strengthen this nation in the future. That is the most important,” the Cabinet Secretary told the press about the current context of the National Awakening Day in Jakarta, Monday (20/5).

Nationalism, Pramono continued, must be instilled from an early age so that they know that even though our people differ from skin color, ethnicity, island, and language, but as a diverse country the nation are united in Indonesian.

Regarding what can be done by the younger generation, the Cabinet Secretary said that their love for the country must be proven by more concrete and certain things.

Furthermore, the younger generation must live more efficiently, productively, aspiring high for their future, and do something useful, he added.

“If they can take care of Indonesia and make this country as the winner, it will be a new model of patriotism,” Pramono said.

On the occasion, Pramono also considered that social media should not divide us but unite us. However, the reality that happened was very different. “If we want to be winners, unity (of the nation) is important,” he concluded. (RSF/OJI/JAY/ES)
