Former Olympic badminton champion Liliyana Natsir on Tuesday (2/4) expressed her gratitude as she officially started her new role as a civil servant.

“Thank you for the Government’s appreciation to the athletes. I hope I can do this job well. This is also a motivation for other athletes to achieve more,” Liliyana said when receiving Decree of State Civil Candidates (CPNS) at the office of Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Besides Liliyana, weightlifter gold medalist in 2018 Asian Games Eko Yuli is also among 286 Indonesian athletes who received the decree.

Minister of Youth and Sports Imam Nahrawi presented the decree himself to the athletes. “Special thanks goes to President Joko Widodo for giving this reward to the outstanding athletes. Hopefully this will be a motivation for other athletes,” Imam said.

In the meantime, Eko Yuli said that the appreciation has motivated him to achieve more for the country. “May our sport continue to move forward. We will give our best performance in other championships, such as the SEA Games and the Olympics in the future,” he added.

The 29-year-old man also also motivated other athletes and his juniors to continue working hard and to follow guidance from their coaches. “I hope I can make a real contribution and provide ideas during my service as a civil servant,” Eko said. (PR of Ministry of Youth and Sports/ES)
