Listyo Sigit Prabowo Named as New National Police Chief

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has inaugurated Police Commissioner General Listyo Sigit Prabowo as Chief of the Indonesian National Police (Kapolri) to replace Police Gen. Idham Azis, who is entering retirement.

The inauguration took place at the State Palace, Jakarta, on Wednesday (27/01), by implementing strict health protocols.

The officer, a graduate from the Police Academy Class of 1991, was inaugurated based on Presidential Decree Number 5/Polri of 2021 on the appointment of the National Police Chief read out by the President’s Military Secretary. After taking his oath, the Commissioner General then signed the minutes of the appointment.

On the occasion, the President, through Presidential Decree Number 7/Polri of 2021 on rank promotion for high-ranking Polri officers, also determined the promotion of one level higher to Police Commissioner General Listyo Sigit Prabowo to become Police General.

After the reading of the Presidential Decree, President Jokowi removed his previous rank and position badges and embedded the new badges as well as handed over a staff of office for National Police Chief to the New Chief. Afterwards, the President and Vice President congratulated him.

Previously, on Wednesday (13/01), President Jokowi proposed Listyo Sigit’s name as the sole candidate for the new police chief through Letter of President Number R-02/Pres/01/2021 to the House of Representatives. The letter was directly submitted by Minister of State Secretary Pratikno to the House.

The House then carried out a fit and proper test for the candidate on Wednesday (20/01). Subsequently, on Thursday (21/01), the House held a Plenary Meeting and approved the sole candidate proposed by the President. (DND/UN) (FI/MUR)
