Ministry of Religious Affairs has announced that it will implement new Madrasa curriculum on Islamic Religious Education and Arabic for the 2020/2021 academic year, starting on 13 July.

“Starting on 2020/2021 academic year, the learning in Islamic primary school (MI), Islamic junior high school (MTs), and Islamic senior high school (MA) will apply new curriculum on  Islamic Religious Education and Arabic,”  Director of Madrasa Curriculum, Facilities, Institutional, and Student Affairs (KSKK) for the Ministry, A. Umar stated in Jakarta, Friday (10/7).

According to Umar, the Ministry has issued KMA (Decree of Minister of Religious Affairs) Number 183 of 2019 on the Curriculum of Islamic Religious Education and Arabic in Madrasas. In addition, KMA Number 184 of 2019 on Guidelines for Implementing Curriculum in Madrasas was also published. Both KMA will be applied simultaneously at all grade levels in the 2020/2021 academic year.

“KMA Number 183 of 2019 will replace KMA Number 165 of 2014 on 2013 Curriculum of Islamic Religious Education and Arabic Subjects in Madrasas,” Umar stated, adding that KMA of 165 of 2014 will no longer valid.

However, both KMAs contain the same subjects.  The subjects include Quran Hadith, Aqidah Akhlaq, Fiqh, Islamic Cultural History, and Arabic. “Their differences lie on the improvement of the substance of subject matter because it is adapted to the development of 21st-century life,” he said.

The Ministry has also prepared new learning materials for these subjects for both teachers and students. “The books can be accessed on the madrasa e-learning website,” Umar stated. (Ministry of Religious Affairs PR/EN)
