In a bid to realize more productive and competitive fisheries industry, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo affirmed that Indonesian maritime policies must be able to anticipate and adapt new technological developments.

According to President Jokowi, the ease of licensing service should come with consideration of fisheries resources sustainability. “So, it needs to be followed with good control and supervision. Do not just give away permits, but also monitor it to prevent impacts that will actually harm our national interests,” the President stated at the online Limited meeting on Indonesian Maritime Policies, Thursday (19/3).

Furthermore, the President also requested that human resources, especially those relating to capital access and infrastructure support as well as adaptation to new technologies, need to be introduced.

“Develop the latest information technology systems in the business of capture fisheries using big data, artificial intelligence.  Also, do not just dwell on the business of capture fisheries but we must also join the official aquaculture, “added the President. (TGH/EN)
