President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo visited Berkesan Fish Market, in Ternate city, North Maluku province, on Wednesday (09/28). In the visit, President Jokowi greeted the people and handed over  social assistances and staple food to the sellers.

As President Jokowi arrived at Berkesan Fish Market at about 07.54 Central Indonesian Time, President was warmly welcomed by the Mayor of Ternate city, Muhlis S. Djumadil and the sellers.

Meril, one of the sellers at the market said that he was so happy to personally meet and shake hands with President Jokowi.

“I have been hoping President Jokowi to come here. Alhamdulillah, I met him and we shook hands,” Meril said.

Halimah, another seller, also felt happy to see the President in person. She was proud that President of the Republic of Indonesia came to her beloved Ternate city.

“We are so proud that Bapak President comes to Ternate city. I am so thankful. We had never seen Bapak President in person, so that is why we are so happy today,” she said.

“We the common people also implored the President to not increase staple foods’ prices, despite the rise of oil fuel price,” she added.

A local named Nurlani told the President a different story and hope. Before the Head of State, Nurlani told him about her husband who is sick and cannot earn money.

“My husband has been sick for so long, Pak. Every day, I go to the church and peel shallots at the market. The President asked, ‘where is your husband?’ I told him, “My husband is at home and cannot earn money. So, I earn money from peeling shallots,” she said.

“I hope the President is blessed with abundance of fortune since I cannot give back his kindness,” she added.

Accompanying President Jokowi during the visit were Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Minister of Manpower Ida Fauziyah, Minister of Investment / Head of Investment Coordinating Board Bahlil Lahadalia, and Governor of North Maluku Abdul Ghani Kasuba.
