A number of breakthroughs made by the Supreme Court (MA) are keys to the success in improving the negative images about the country’s judicial system President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo has said.

“Many think that justice will not be upheld in court rooms,” President Jokowi said in his remarks at the opening of the Plenary Session of 2018 Annual Report of the Supreme Court at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), Jakarta, Wednesday (27/2).

According to the President, the breakthroughs that have been and are being carried out by the Supreme Court are essential to restore people’s trust in the Indonesian law and justice system.

“I am sure that with the reforms in the Indonesian judiciary system carried out consistently by the Supreme Court, all of these negative assumptions will diminish,” he said.

Furthermore, the implementation of e-court, ranging from case registrations, payment for advance court fees, to the court summon notification is believed to accelerate the realization of simple, fast and low-cost judicial services, the President added.

“I also hope that the implementation of e-court can be a way to realize judicial transparency and at the same time to build a new paradigm that can motivate judicial entities to be more innovative,” the President said.

President Jokowi also gave full support to the Supreme Court to make improvements to the reforms in the judicial system. He also expressed belief that with the synergy between the Government, the Supreme Court and all related institutions, legal certainty will be materialized. “It will also contribute to a positive business climate to boost Indonesian economy,” he added.
