President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Wednesday (25/3) delivered his message on celebration of the Nyepi Day (Day of Silence celebrated by Balinese Hindus) and 1942 Saka New Year’s Day.

“I hope the pandemic will soon be contained and we are all granted salvation,” the President tweeted in his Twitter account on Wednesday (25/3) at 08.05 Western Indonesian Time.

The Nyepi Day, according to the President, is celebrated by observing silence.

“The 1942 Saka New Year and Nyepi Day is a day when all religious communities, as well as Hindus, are observing silence,” the President said.

Nyepi is a holy day that marks the beginning of the Hindu New Year according to the Saka calendar. Balinese Hindus mark the day by amati geni (abstaining from lighting fires), amati karya (abstaining from work), amati lelungan (abstaining from venturing outside the family compound) and amati lelanguan (abstaining from enjoying entertainment).
