OF

THE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF INDONESIA

ON THE COMMEMORATION OF 54TH ANNIVERSARY OF INDONESIAN SCOUT MOVEMENT (PRAMUKA)

AT THE CIBUBUR CAMPING GROUND

ON 16 AUGUST 2015

Bismillahirrahmaaniraahim,

Assalamu’alaikum warrahmatullahi wabarakaatuh,

Good afternoon,

May we all be bestowed with prosperity,

Distinguished Chairman of National Headquarters of Indonesian Scout Movement and Chairmen of Provincial Headquarters of Indonesian Scout Movement from Sabang to Merauke,

Distinguished Ambassadors of friendly countries, Ministers of Working Cabinet, Representatives of international organizations,

Members of Indonesian Scout Movement that I love and I am proud of,

Rover Scoutmasters and Scoutmasters,

Distinguished Guests,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Scout salute!

Scout clap!

Once more, scout clap!

First of all, I would like to congratulate the Scout Movement at home and abroad on the commemoration of 54th anniversary of Indonesian Scout Movement. Hopefully, the 54th anniversary 2015 can be a momentum for a more significant role of the Scout Movement and its contribution toward the nation and country, as mentioned earlier by Adhyaksa Dault, the Chairman of National Headquarters of Indonesian Scout Movement, particularly in building the young generation so they have good personality and character, and establish their identity as strong young generation.

I positively welcome the theme of the 54th anniversary of the Scout Movement, namely “The Scout Movement serves as the primary agent of change in building the characters of the young generation.” This theme is in line with our spirit and intention to realize the mandate of the Proclamation of Independence (17 August 1945). The ideal of the independence is to build Indonesian people who have mental and physical freedom. Therefore, the development of a nation is not merely a matter of physical development, but actually it is a matter of mental development. Moreover, our sustainability as a nation is ultimately determined by our capability to maintain the national mentality and character. Insya Allah, a nation that shows great character and personality will not be easily left in uncertainty in the era of continuous change. That is why the Scout Movement is at the forefront of movement for change in national character building.

Distinguished participants,

As the primary agent of movement for change, the Scout Movement should set an example, be a role model for national mentality change. The Scout Movement should be the pioneer in promoting values of integrity, morality, good manners, mutual respect, work ethics, and cooperation. Make a change, starting from your own neighborhood. Invite your relatives and friends to join in this movement for change. Prove that the change is real and can be done by anyone, by every child of the nation.

You should be role models in demonstrating optimistic mentality, not being pessimists. I am sure that the movement made to build this nation’s mentality will produce a profound effect if it is supported by the Indonesian people.

Members of the Indonesian Scout Movement,

I am of the hope that the Scout Movement will use this commemoration of the 54th anniversary to evaluate the extent to which the Scout Movement has really been a movement that brings benefit to the people and the extent to which the Scout Movement’s activities and contribution can shape the character and personality of the children of the nation. Thus, I support the revitalization of the Scout Movement.

Revitalization requires us to work hard, not only in making the Scout Movement as the most important part of national character education in the national education system, but also in making breakthrough for the Scout Movement, in encouraging innovation, so that the Scout Movement continues to be appreciated and relevant to the young generation. It is impossible to think the Scout Movement can be the primary agent of change without the participation of the young generation. Therefore, I would like to ask the National Headquarters and Provincial Headquarters of Indonesian Scout Movement to keep finding creative ways to make our younger brothers and sisters, our children, love the Scout Movement.

Ladies and Gentlemen, my children, members of the Scout Movement that I am proud of,

To conclude my message, once again, my children, members of the Scout Movement throughout the country, I hope you will be the Scout Movement members who have strong mentality and personality, never give up, keep good discipline, and who are also innovative and always work hard. Furthermore, please preserve and uphold the values of Pancasila (the state ideology), Tri Satya (the scout promise), and Dasadharma Pramuka (the scout law) deeply in your hearts. Most importantly, you should be proud to be the Scout Movement members.

Long live the Scout Movement and long live Indonesia!

Long live the Scout Movement!

Scout salute!

Scout clap!

Once again, scout clap!

Thank you.

Wassalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.
