Minister of Communications and Informatics Invites People to Use Social Media Wisely

Minister of Communications and Informatics Rudiantara used the momentum of the 110th National Awakening Day to remind the public, particularly in the awakening of information and communication technology, to be wise in using social media.

“People should be wise in using social media. Do not send negative content carelessly because any digital footprints will be recorded,” said Minister Rudiantara after attending flower sowing event at the Kalibata National Heroes Cemetery, Jakarta, Friday (5/18).

The Minister said that he will continue to secure virtual world from any content related to radicalism and terrorism, adding that Ministry of Communications and Informatics is currently optimizing the work of negative content crawling machine.

According to Minister Rudiantara, the work of the machine named AIS is currently upgraded to (search negative content) every two hours, so that sites that are found related to radicalism and terrorism can be taken down faster.

“For sites, the machine crawls every two hours. We enter the specific keywords, then sites related to those keywords will appear. So far we have found 1,285 sites and have them taken down,” Minister Rudiantara explained.

The Minister admitted if there are enormous amount of contents related to radicalism and terrorism in social media. Therefore, he asked public to actively report any suspicious site or content.

“Cooperation between Minister of Communications and Informatics, the Indonesian National Police, and the public will give better and faster results to tackle radicalism and terrorism,” said Minister Rudiantara.

The flower sowing event at the Kalibata National Heroes Cemetery is a series of Commemoration of the 110th National Awakening Day, with the top event is National Awakening Ceremony.

There are also various events, such as Car Free Day in Jakarta, Yogyakarta, and Surabaya on Sunday (13/5), and National Awakening Speech Competition held at National Library, Jakarta. (PR Division of Ministry of Communications and Informatics/ES) (STU/MMB/Naster)
