Minister of Foreign Affairs: Two Document Drafts to Discuss in the 5th Extraordinary OIC Summit

Minister of Foreign Affairs delivers a press statement (6/3)

The meeting of high rank officials or Senior Official Meeting (SOM) and the ministerial meeting of the participants of the Extraordinary OIC Summit held on Sunday (6/3) morning until evening had agreed on two document drafts to be discussed on Monday (7/3).

“The the things discussed in the drafts are the following: first, the resolution containing the basic principles, second one is the Jakarta Declaration containing concrete things and future policies, ” said Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi  in her press conference at the media center, JCC, Jakarta, on Sunday (6/3) afternoon after chairing the ministerial meeting.

Minister of Foreign Affairs who was accompanied by the Chairman of SOM Hasan Kleib, expressed that at the meeting the delegations showed solidarity, commitment, and a sense of unity of the OIC member countries to continue to help the struggle of the Palestinians.

“During the negotiation, OIC member countries obviously showed solidarity, commitment, and a sense of unity to continue to help the Palestinian struggle,” said Retno.

Furthermore, Retno said that she could not deliver the details of the two drafts, since it would be the result of the Summit.  She added that if there would be some inputs during the conference, then the inputs would play more part in strengthening these documents.

Statement by the President of Palestine

Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno P Marsudi conveyed that the series of the 5th Extraordinary OIC Summit was attended by 605 delegates from 57 countries and was covered by 500 journalists.

Minister of Foreign Affairs also mentioned that on Monday (7/3), the meeting would start at 8.00 AM. Furthermore, the Minister said that at tomorrow opening session, there would be a statement by the Egypt who is the Chairman of the 12th OIC Summit and followed by a statement by the President of Indonesia as the host.

“Then there will be a statement by the President of Palestine and continued with the final statement by the Secretary General of the OIC,” said Retno to end the press statement. (FID/UN) (AJ/LW)
