Minister of Manpower Promises to Simplify Permit Process for Foreign Workers

Minister of Manpower Hanif Dakhiri promises to comprehensively manage permit process for foreign workers so the process would be faster and more responsive to, for example, the latest situation of the world including the rise of new jobs.

“The Government still has good scheme of control. Nothing to be worried about,” Hanif told the reporters after attending a Limited Meeting on Foreign Workers Management at the Presidential Office, Jakarta, Tuesday (6/3) afternoon.<>

According to the Minister, recommendation letter from ministries/institutions that usually takes quite a long time to process will no longer be needed. Ministry of Manpower and Immigration Office to be responsible to process permit for foreign workers.

“There is already an online system. It is connected with the Ministry of Finance for Skill Development Fund (DPKK), with Immigration Office, and the regions (around 234 regions),” the Minister said and added that a requirement to provide recommendation letter makes the process longer, thus, it is evaluated.

The Minister asserts that permit process for foreign workers will be managed so that it will be faster, better, and has a clear control scheme.

“So, the process is simplified but supervision will be strengthened. It should not be the other way around, for example, the process is complicated but supervision is poor,” Hanif said.

Concerning the issue of sweeping, based on the last coordination meeting, there will be a joint circular letter amongst related ministries to equalize perception regarding law enforcement of foreign workers.
