Minister Reveals 2023 State Budget Allocation for Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, Technology

Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Nadiem Makarim announced that the Government has allocated Rp80.22 trillion for the Ministry’s budget in 2023.

“The total budget for the Ministry in 2023 is around Rp80.22 trillion and the biggest component is allocated for mandatory funding of Rp38.17 trillion. This includes various allowances and assistance to ensure access to education, such as Smart Indonesia Program (PIP), Smart Indonesia Card (KIP), teacher allowances, lecturer allowances, and others,” Nadiem said in a press statement after receiving the Ministry’s 2023 Budget Implementation List (DIPA) from President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, Thursday (12/1), in Jakarta.

On the Ministry’s priority program, the Merdeka Belajar (Freedom to Learn) program, Rp4.57 trillion will be allocated for this program, the Minister said. The budget will be used for various types of development such as the Merdeka Curriculum, the national assessment, Guru Penggerak (Initiator Teacher) program, Sekolah Penggerak (Initiator School) program mentoring in frontier, outermost, and disadvantaged (3T) areas, as well as literacy programs.

“In a bid to implement the education digitization program, we will continue to improve free technology platforms for teachers and principals next year to ensure that all teachers have the ability to increase their capacity,” he added.

Previously, President Jokowi stated that improving the quality of human resources is one of the six focuses of the Government in the 2023 State Budget.

The budget allocation in the 2023 State Budget for the education sector reaches Rp612.2 trillion, comprising of Rp237.1 trillion for the Central Government, Rp305.6 trillion for transfers to the regions, and Rp69.5 trillion for financing. (MAY/UN) (FI/MMB)
