Ministry Continues Internet Data Assistance This Year

Following the well-received Internet Data Assistance policy given to the public in 2020, Ministry of Education and Culture announced that it will carry on the policy this year.

According to Minister of Education and Culture Nadiem Makarim, the assistance will be given for three month, from March to May 2021.

As for early childhood education (PAUD) students, 7 GB of internet data is provided per month, 10 GB of internet data is provided to elementary and middle schools students per month, 12 GB is provided to teachers of PAUD, elementary and middle schools teachers per months, and 15 GB is provided to university students and lecturers.

“The assistance will be disbursed on the 11th -15th day each month; the internet data will remain active 30 days since the disbursement,” the Minister said in his virtual press conference broadcast on Ministry of Education and Culture YouTube channel, Monday (1/3).

He went on to say that the internet data provided can be used to access all websites and apps, unless those blocked by the Ministry of Communications and Informatics, and restricted websites listed in http://kuota-belajar.kemdikbud.go.id.

The recipients of this assistance are students, teachers and lecturers who are recipients of similar policy in November-December last year with active mobile phone numbers.

“They will automatically receive the internet data in March 2021, unless those used less than 1 GB of internet data,” he added.

For those receiving the assistance in November-December 2020, heads of education units are not required to upload the Absolute Responsibility Statement (SPTJM). For those changing their mobile phone numbers or the new recipients, they must inform it to the heads of education units before April 2021. Afterwards, operators of education units will upload the SPTJM on http://vervalponsel.data.kemdikbud.go.id (for PAUD, elementary and middle schools), or on http://pddikti.kemdikbud.go.id (for higher education).

Based on Regulation of Secretary-General of the Ministry of Education and Culture Number 4 of 2021 on Technical Guides on the Disbursement of Internet Data Assistance 2021, PAUD, elementary, and middle schools students must be registered in the education database and have active mobile phone numbers under their names, their parent/family member/guardian’s names. Meanwhile, university students must be registered in higher education database, have active academic year, obtain Course Selection Sheet of the ongoing semester and have active mobile phone numbers.

For teachers at PAUD, elementary, and middle schools, they must be registered in education database and have active mobile phone numbers. University lecturers must be registered in higher education database, active working at university, obtain registration numbers, and have active mobile phone numbers.

Based on Arus Survei Indonesia, a private survey institute based in Jakarta, 84.7 percent of respondents have agreed that internet data assistance provided by the Government in 2020 is the right move to address crises due to COVID-19 pandemic.
