Moeldoko Asks People to Wait for Official Elections Results
Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko urged the public to remain calm while waiting for the official election results from the General Elections Commission (KPU).
“I suggest everyone to be patient and stay calm. Yesterday, the President also asked the people to patiently wait the official result while maintaining our unity,” said Moeldoko to the press after a limited meeting, at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Thursday (18/4).
Before the announcement (of election results), he continued, no candidate could claim the victory as it may trigger public chaos.
“We must be mindful and do not lead this situation into a frightening condition. Do not attempt a provocation because there is a legal risk to any action,” Moeldoko stressed.
He reminded that the KPU is an independent institution trusted by the people, thus the people must follow the process.
Moeldoko also ensured that the security officers are always ready for any possible scenarios after the elections.
“We already anticipate it. So, there is no need for people to worry. It is a normal situation. We are all ready to face any situation,” he said.
Regarding the victory claim of one party, Moeldoko believed that the KPU will carry out its duties professionally. “I am sure there are complaints about the conditions. But the public must understand that the KPU also faces various problems. (I believe) They will fix any mistakes,” Moeldoko concluded. (UN/JAY/ES)
