Mother’s Day Commemoration Starting Point for Women’s Empowerment Acceleration: PPPA Minister

Indonesian women should be aware and active to gain the same access and opportunities as men have in various development fields, Minister of Women Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA) I Gusti Ayu Bintang Darmawati has said.

Therefore, Mother’s Day Commemoration is expected to encourage all stakeholders in order to pay attention and recognition regarding the importance of women’s existence in development sectors.

“Eventually, it will improve women’s belief to increase their quality of life and develop all potential and abilities to become the driving force of changes,” Darmawanti said while delivering remarks at the commemoration of 91st Mother’s Day, at the Ministry of State Secretariat’s yard, Jakarta, Monday (23/12).

For that reason, according to the Minister, the commemoration is the starting point of acceleration movement to improve women’s empowerment in various development fields, to provide protection for women as well as to realize the President’s directives.

Hence, the Minister continued, this year’s Mother’s Day Commemoration adopts the theme “Empowered Women, Advanced Indonesia”.

“It only consists of four words, but it contains a million meanings,” Darmawanti said, adding that it also needs all elements of society and multi-stakeholder involvement, including the role of men in campaigns to support the prevention of violence and the achievement of gender equality.

On that occasion, the Minister encouraged Indonesian women to move forward to become more independent, creative, innovative, confident, and together with men will make a great force to ensure the realization of Excellent and Competitive Human Capital for Advanced Indonesia.

“Happy 91st Mother’s Day to all of us, may God Almighty always protect all steps and struggles to build our beloved nation and country, Indonesia,” the Minister said.

The ceremony was attended by officials and employees of the Ministry of State Secretariat and Cabinet Secretariat. Also present during the ceremony were, among others, Deputy Cabinet Secretary for Maritime Affairs Agustina Murbaningsih. (AIS / RAH / ES)
