Mt. Semeru Eruption: VP Ma’ruf Amin to Inspect Evacuation Shelters in Lumajang Regency

Vice President Ma’ruf Amin Thursday (12/16) accompanied by Ibu Wury Ma’ruf Amin headed to Lumajang regency in East Java province to inspect evacuation shelters of Mt. Semeru eruption.  

The Vice President departed to Surabaya from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base onboard Boeing 737- 400 Presidential Aircraft at around 07.30 Western Indonesian Time (WIB).

Upon his arrival at Juanda International airport in Sidoarjo regency, East Java province, the Vice President welcomed by Governor of East Java Khofifah Indar Parawansa and a number of related officials are scheduled to continue the flight onboard Super Puma VVIP Helicopter to Lumajang regency to inspect an evacuation shelter in Penanggal village, Candipuro district.

At the evacuation shelter, the Vice President is slated to meet evacuees in emergency tents set up by Ministry of Social Affairs, the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI), the Indonesian National Police (Polri), and East Java Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD).

The Vice President is also scheduled to inspect the disaster command post set up by Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) and the National Zakat Agency (Baznas) in the regency.

In addition, the Vice President will also witness the handover of social aid from Regional CEO of BSI Region Office IX Surabaya and Chairperson of Baznas to Regent of Lumajang. Then, the Vice President and limited congregation are scheduled to perform a ghaib prayer (prayer for the deceased from afar) for the fallen victims of Mt. Semeru eruption.

After inspecting the evacuation shelter in Penanggal village, the Vice President together with Governor of East Java and his entourage continued the trip by car heading to Renteng, Sumberwuluh village, Candipuro district, which was devastated by the eruption.

Afterwards, the Vice President returned to Surabaya to continue his flight to Bali province for his next working visit. (BPMI of Vice Presidential Secretariat/AIT) (RIF/MUR)
