National Development Planning Head: New Capital is at Master Plan Design Stage

The stage of pre-master planning of Indonesia’s new capital has completed and now it is entering master plan stage, Head of National Development Planning Agency Suharso Monoarfa has said.

“Now the Government proceeds to master plan stage which will involve world-class consultants. Many parties have shown their interest to join the bidding,” Suharso said after attending a Limited Meeting at the Presidential Office,Jakarta, Wednesday (12/1).

According to him, the Government has come up with an urban design but it still needs some revisions. “The details will be elaborated on the master plan, for example the position of neighboring cities such as Samarinda, Balikpapan, Tenggarong,” Suharso said.

Regarding legislation, he emphasized that the academic paper and the draft law have been completed. “Although these documents still need correction, in general, we have completed them. Some laws are in the form of omnibus law,” said Suharso.

Meanwhile, in terms of authority that will manage the capital, Suharso added, it will be at ministry level, replicating the management model of post-tsunami reconstruction and rehabilitation in Aceh that involve all ministries.

“The authority then will end as soon as the formation of the government is established,” Suharso concluded.
