Chief of the Indonesian National Police General Suyudi Ario Seto reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening public services, fair law enforcement, and bringing the Indonesian National Police (Polri) closer to the public.

He made the statement during a press conference after being sworn in by President Prabowo Subianto at the State Palace in Jakarta on Thursday (10/01).

Police Chief Suyudi said that his initial steps would include internal consolidation and an evaluation of various programs implemented under the previous leadership. Programs that are effective will be continued, while aspects requiring improvement will be addressed as part of future reforms.

“We will review issues that can still be improved. Those that remain effective will be continued, while those requiring improvement will be improved,” he said.

He explained that the Polri will focus on improving public services. He also identified fair law enforcement and closer engagement with the public as priorities of his leadership. These priorities are in line with his work program: “The police is with the people.”

“Certainly, we will prioritize efforts to improve public services. We will also ensure fair law enforcement and strive to become closer to the public, in accordance with our work program, namely ‘The police is with the people,’” he said.

According to him, maintaining close ties with the public is a fundamental part of the police’s duties. The Polri must be present among the people and be able to respond promptly to various security and public order issues.

“Indeed, the police must always be close to the public, be present among the people, and provide swift responses to the public within the framework of maintaining security and public order,” he added.

As part of the internal consolidation process, he said that he will map various issues within the Polri institution to determine priority measures. The reforms will be carried out within the framework of maintaining security and public order, while following the Police’s short-, medium-, and long-term strategies and road map.

“We will identify the issues and take measures that we consider important and that will become our priorities, particularly within the framework of maintaining security and public order,” he said.

Suyudi also highlighted several issues that have continued to receive President Prabowo’s attention, including the eradication of narcotics, the prevention of smuggling, and the elimination of online gambling. According to him, the President has consistently reminded all parties to play closer attention to issues that are causing concern among the public.

“The President always reminds all of us, particularly during various activities, including yesterday’s meeting, of issues related to narcotics, smuggling, online gambling, and other matters causing concern among the public,” he said. (BPMI) (EST/MMB)
