National Social Solidarity Day Should Strengthen Social Solidarity in Facing Pandemic: Minister

The Commemoration of the 2020 National Social Solidarity Day held amid the COVID-19 pandemic should become a momentum to strengthen social solidarity, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy has said.

“The 2020 National Social Solidarity Day is expected to raise our awareness in implementing a sense of social solidarity, caring, sharing, and mutual cooperation in overcoming the impact of COVID-19,” Muhadjir said in his remarks representing President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo at the Commemoration of the 2020 National Social Solidarity Day, in Manado, North Sulawesi Province, Saturday (19/12).

According to him, if we apply and cultivate the values of social solidarity, all challenges and issues of the nation can be faced properly.

“I’m sure that we will be able to face the challenges and problems of the nation as well as the impact of COVID-19 if we can carry out the values of social solidarity,” he said.

Muhadjir went on to say that the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic is the responsibility of the Government and all elements of Indonesian people.

“Through this commemoration, let’s compete to provide contributions to the nation and state so that Indonesian people can overcome all problems caused by the impact of COVID-19. Let’s fight the pandemic by becoming humanitarian fighters. We can start with ourselves, family, the surroundings for the sake of the nation and state,” the Minister stated.

For the record, the 2020 National Social Solidarity Day was held at the Mapalus Building, North Sulawesi Governor’s Office, Manado City. The commemoration was also physically attended by 150 participants and virtually attended by 5,000 participants.

In welcoming the 2020 National Social Solidarity Day, various social activities have been carried out in Jakarta and its surrounding areas as well as several places in North Sulawesi Province. Those social activities include aid distribution to communities affected by the pandemic in Bitung City by the Asia Moslem Charity Foundation (AMCF).
