The Government is serious to produce outstanding national athletes both in domestic and international arena, Vice President Ma’ruf Amin said.

He conveyed the statement when chairing the Ministerial Meeting of the National Sports Grand Design (DBON) Central Coordination Team, at the Vice Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Thursday (05/12).

“I hope that the DBON can produce outstanding athletes through long-term athlete development from upstream to downstream based on sports science and technology and can achieve the target of achieving fifth place at the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games in 2044,” said the Vice President.

The Vice President also encouraged the cooperation of all parties, from the central government, regional governments, sports organizations, business and industry, and the public in the implementation of the DBON.

“The implementation of the DBON is the responsibility of all of us, not only Ministry of Youth and Sports. Synergy is needed in the form of policy support, budget, curriculum, facilities, infrastructures and others, which are stated into a roadmap so that the implementation of the DBON can be systematic and sustainable,” he added.

He expressed belief that our country has highly potential talents that are not inferior, and even better than other countries. However, he acknowledged that there is still a lack of coaching for existing talents.

Therefore, Ma’ruf emphasized the importance of implementing sport science in developing sports in the future. He asked related ranks such as the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) and Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology to design the proper application of sports science.

In addition, Ma’ruf also requested to increase the number of sports competitions at school from regional and national levels so that they can produce outstanding athletes.

“School sports competition in the regions must be developed,” he said.

Closing his remarks, the Vice President asked Minister of Youth and Sports to immediately publish a roadmap as a guideline for DBON implementation at the central to regional levels.

“Minister of Youth and Sports should immediately conduct a thorough dissemination to regional governments with clear stages, and it is necessary to stimulate and give incentive to regional governments to support the implementation of DBON in the regions, with support from Minister of Home Affairs,” he asserted.

The DBON as outlined in Presidential Regulation Number 86 of 2021 is a master plan that contains the direction of national sports coaching and development policies that are carried out effectively, efficiently, superior, measurably, accountable, systematic and sustainable in the four scopes of the national sports ecosystem, which consists of educational sports, recreational sports, achievement sports, and the sports industry during the period of 2021-2045. It is aim to improve sports culture in society; increase the capacity, synergy, and productivity of national sports achievements; and promote a sports-based national economy. (BPMI/UN) (EST/HD)
