New Airfare Price Ceiling Applies for Jet-Aircraft Economy Seats Only: Govt
The Indonesian Government has decided to cut down domestic airfare price ceiling by 12-16% which only applies to jet-aircraft economy seats.
“We have decided to lower the price ceiling by 12-16%. The average airfare reduction is 15%. (The adjusted price ceiling) only applies to economy seats of the jet-aircraft and does not apply to aircraft with propellers,” Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi said during a press conference on airfare at the office of Coordinating Ministry for the Economy, Jakarta, Monday (13/5).
The price ceiling adjustment has taken into account flight safety aspects, he said.
The price ceiling adjustment, he added, will be applied in the very near future and will be immediately announced to all flight stakeholders as well as to the public.
“Coordinating Minister for the Economy has instructed us to complete the new price ceiling calculation by 15 May. Therefore, we will work hard to finish it and immediately announce it,” he said, adding that the adjusted price ceiling is expected to provide affordable airfare as well as to maintain sustainability of the aviation industry.
