New Finance Minister Aims at Maintaining Sound, Credible, Impactful State Budget

The newly-appointed Finance Minister Suahasil Nazara stated his commitment to safeguard a sound and stable state finance, as well as to support the Government priority programs.

“The President’s specific directive is to safeguard the country’s public finances. This means maintaining their soundness and preserving the credibility of the state’s finances. The State Budget, as part of the country’s public finances, must be able to support the Government’s priority programs. Therefore, the State Budget must be sound,” he firmly said.

The Minister added that Ministry of Finance will continue to support the State Budget as the driver of the national economic growth while still maintaining its stability. He also mentioned the target to keep the State Budget deficit under 3 percent.

On the occasion, he underscored the importance of reliable public communication in managing the State Budget since its credibility not only determined through sound policies, but also through consistent communication with the public.

Regarding budget efficiency, the Minister said that it is more than reducing spending but uses it for other outputs that bring maximum concrete benefits to the people.

He also ensured that that the transition process at the Ministry of Finance would be properly coordinated. This will ensure that the management of public finances and the implementation of various government programs, under new leadership, can continue seamlessly and without interruption.
