President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo invited all elements of society to seize the momentum of the Islamic New Year 1438 Hijra to conduct self-introspection. The invitation was conveyed through a tweet that he uploaded on his twitter account @jokowi, on Sunday (2/10).

“Happy Islamic New Year 1438 Hijra. A good opportunity for us to carry out self-introspection – Jkw,” the President tweeted at around 10:32 pm.

In his next tweets, in observance of National Batik Day on October 2, President Jokowi also invited the Indonesian people to continue to develop batik which has become Indonesia’s cultural heritage that is recognised worldwide. The President also said that batik industry is one of the creative industries that could drive the national economy.

“Let us continue to develop batik as creative industries that drive our national economy. Happy National Batik Day 2016 – Jkw,” the President said.

As we may be aware of, October 2 has been designated as National Batik Day. This is done to commemorate the enactment of batik as Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity on October 2, 2009 by UNESCO. The recognition of batik constitutes an international recognition of Indonesian culture. (BPMI/UN)
