President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has expressed support for Citayam Fashion Week phenomenon that has occurred in a downtown Jakarta area and has been trending on the internet for a while recently.

Public space in Dukuh Atas area in Central Jakarta has been filled by the youths from the outskirts of Jakarta, particularly Citayam in Bogor regency, West Java province. They use the space to hang out and create digital content while dressed up in clothing pieces that show fashion statements, hence the term Citayam Fashion Week.

“As long as [the activities are] positive, I suppose there is no problem. Don’t make it a big deal. Positive activities must be supported and encouraged,” President Jokowi said, adding that creativities that are positive and do not violate regulations must also be supported.

“As long as they do not violate any rule. That is creative. Why must creative works be prohibited? Once again, as long as they do not contradict or violate any rule. That is the principle,” he remarked. (AIT/UN) (DH/MMB)
