Over 7.83 Million Foreign Tourists Visit Indonesia in 2019: BPS

1Agust_BAs of June 2019, the number of international tourist arrival to Indonesia in 2019 reached 7.83 million, rising by 4.01% from that of the same period last year at 7.53 million tourists.

“The figure consists of 4.52 million tourist arrivals through air crossing point, 2.11 million arrivals through sea crossing point, and 1.19 million arrivals through land crossing point,” Head of the National Statistics Agency (BPS) Suhariyanto said during a press statement, at the Agency’s Headquarters, Jakarta, on Thursday (1/8).

Suhariyanto added that the number of foreign tourist arrival to Indonesia in June 2019 reached 1.45 million tourists, rising by 9.94 percent compared to that in June 2018 at 1.32 million tourists. In the meantime, compared to that in May 2019, the number of foreign tourist arrival in June 2019 increased by 15.48 percent.

“The figure consists of 832,190 tourist arrivals through air crossing point, 392,300 arrivals through sea crossing point, and 229,640 arrivals through land crossing point,” he added.

The Head of the Agency went on to say that the number of tourists from Southeast Asian countries increased by 18.91 percent during a period of January-June 2019 compared to the same period last year and it is recorded as the highest percentage increase. In the meantime, the number of tourists from other Asian countries visiting Indonesia drops significantly by 7.06 percent.

Based on nationality, Malaysian tourists recorded the highest figure of 1.60 million arrivals (20.47 percent) in 2019, followed by Chinese tourists which stood at 1.05 million arrivals (13.43 percent), Singaporean tourists 925,800 arrivals (11.83 percent), Timur Leste (East Timor) 608,500 arrivals (7.77 percent), and Australian tourists 607,200 arrivals (7.76 percent).

Out of those 1.45 million tourists arriving in Indonesia in June 2019, the biggest ones come from Malaysia which stood at 296,700 (20.41 percent), Singapore 185,300 arrivals (12.74 percent), China 168,600 arrivals (11.60 percent), Australia 123,300 (8.48 percent), and Timor Leste (East Timor) 102,200 arrivals (7.03 percent).

According to Suhariyanto, with the increase of the number of foreign tourists, Room Occupancy Rate (TPK) of hotels in June 2019 increased by 0.23 points to 52.27 percent compared to the rate in June 2018, which was only 52.04 percent. Compared with the rate in May 2019 which was 43.53 percent, the TPK of hotels in June 2019 increased by 8.74 points.

“The highest TPK is recorded in the Special Region of Yogyakarta, with 64.31 percent, followed by North Sulawesi Province with 60.48 percent, and Bali Province with 60.37 percent, while, the lowest rate is recorded in Maluku Province with 30.19 points,” he stated.

The average stay of foreign tourists in the hotels in Indonesia reached 1.77 days in June 2019, the number decreased by 0.08 point compared to the average hotel stay in June 2018, and 0.16 point compared to the average hotel stay in May 2019.

“In general, the average stay of foreign tourists in June 2019 is longer than that of domestic tourists; the figures are 2.71 days and 1.64 days respectively,” he added.

Based on each province, the longest average length of stay for hotel guest in June 2019 was recorded in Bali Province with 2.69 days, followed by North Sulawesi Province with 2.40 days, and Maluku Province with 2.26 days, while the shortest average length of stay for hotel guest was recorded in Central Java Province with 1.24 days. (Humas BPS/ES)
