Head of Bureau for Press, Media, and Information Affairs, Secretariat of the President Bey Machmudin denied the rumor that President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has got a salary increase.

“Up until now, the salaries of President Jokowi and Vice President Jusuf Kalla were still based on Law Number 7 of 1978 on the Financial and Administrative Rights of President and Vice President, and Former President and Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia,” Bey said in a press statement on Wednesday (28/6).

Bey also said that Article 2 of that Law stated that the basic salary for the President is six times from the highest basic salary of the other public officials beside President and Vice President, while the basic salary for the Vice President is four times from the highest basic salary of the other public officials beside President and Vice President.

According to Government Regulation Number 75 of 2000, the highest basic salaries of the other public officials (House of Representatives speaker, the Supreme Court chief justice and the Supreme Audit Agency chief) are Rp 5.04 million per month.

“Thus, the basic salary for the President is six times from that amount, which is Rp 30,240,000. Meanwhile, basic salary for the Vice President is four times from that amount, which is Rp 20,160,000,” Bey added.

For the record, President and Vice President also receive allowance for their jobs. Based on Presidential Decree Number 68 of 2001, the President receives Rp 32,500,000, and the Vice President receives Rp 22,000,000.

“Therefore, the salaries of the President and Vice President still have not changed since 2001,” Bey firmly said. (ES) (RA/MMB/YM/Naster)
