Palembang LRT Expected to Operate in July

Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi said that the Palembang Light Rail Transit (LRT) will officially operate on 15 July 2018.
“After the dynamic test and the meeting, the Palembang LRT is expected to operate on 15 July 2018,” Budi said after attending the LRT dynamic test on Sunday (27/5).
The Minister further said that he will discuss the readiness of the Palembang LRT operation with all contractors. “The concern of Ministry of Transportation is to make sure that the LRT is integrated with the existing transportation system in Palembang to provide reliable intermodal transportation and facilitate peoples mobility. Budi explained.
“We have talked about Trans Musi and will provide water buses to ensure that the intermodal transportation, of which the LRT is the main transportation mode, is supported by other transportation modes as feeder,” Budi said.
On that occasion, the Minister also expressed his pride that the Palembang LRT has become a collaboration of several state-owned enterprises from the beginning of its construction until the operation.
For the record, Palembang LRT project is built by the consortium of state-owned enterprises, which include PT Waskita Karya which is responsible for the construction, PT LEN which provides signaling service, PT. Kereta Api Indonesia which oversees the operation and PT INKA which provides train carriages.
Also attending the event were Director General of Railways of Ministry of Transportation Zulfikri, President Director of PT. INKA Budi Noviantoro, President Director of PT Waskita Karya I Gusti Ngurah Putra, Director of Infrastructure of Directorate General of Railways Zamrides and Director of Railways Traffic and Transportation of the Directorate General of Railways Zulmafendi.
