Pancasila serves as a fortress that protects the nation from other ideologies, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has said.

The President also stressed that many challenges come to disrupt national unity, but the country’s determination on the commitments in practicing the noble cores of Pancasila is stronger.

“Pancasila serves as a guide for the unity and the ideology of our nation,” wrote the President on his Facebook fans page in observance of the Pancasila Sanctity Day that falls on 1 October.

“The democratic process has been managed well because noble cores of Pancasila have become the nation’s guiding star,” he added.

Indonesia, the President added, is destined to be a diverse country, spanning from Sabang to Merauke, from Miangas Island to Rote Island.

“We have differences in ethnicities, languages, customs, religions, beliefs and group affiliations that make Indonesia united,” he said.

For the record, President Jokowi on Tuesday (1/10) led the Pancasila Sanctity Commemoration Day Ceremony at the Pancasila Sakti Monument in Lubang Buaya, East Jakarta.

Before leaving the venue, President Jokowi and Vice President Jusuf Kalla also greeted the relatives of the Revolution Hero.

Pancasila Sanctity Day was established during the New Order under former President Soeharto in observance of the passing of seven heroes of the revolution, who were perished in a failed coup allegedly attempted by members of the now-defunct Indonesian Communist Party (PKI).
