Paralifter Ni Nengah Widiasih Bags Indonesia’s First Paralympic Medal
Indonesian paralifter Ni Nengah Widiasih snatched the first medal for the country at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games.
Competing in women’s 41-kilogram para powerlifting event at the Tokyo International Forum, Japan on Thursday (26/8), Ni Nengah Widiasih secured a silver medal and recorded the best lift at 98 kilograms.
The gold medal was won by Chinese athlete Guo Lingling who just broke her own record with 108 kilograms, while Venezuelan athlete Clara Fuentes Monasterio took the bronze with the best lift at 97 kilograms.
This silver medal is the second medal that Widiasih won during her participation at the Paralympics.
Previously, she won a bronze medal and secured the only medal for Indonesia at the 2016 Rio Paralympics with the best lift at 95 kilograms. At that event, Turkish athlete Nazmiye Muratli won the gold medal with the best lift at 104 kilograms, and Chinese athlete Zhe Chui won the silver medal with the best lift at 102 kilograms.
