President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Friday (03/24) at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, received a visit from Chairperson of Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Council (PBNU) Yahya Cholil Staquf.

On that occasion, Chairperson of the PBNU conveyed the Council’s strategic plans and follow-up results of the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of Nahdlatul Ulama.

“The commemoration of Nahdlatul Ulama’s 100th anniversary was carried out successfully. We are also planning to follow up the events held in commemorating the anniversary since those are starting points for various future strategic initiatives,” Yahya said in a press statement after the meeting.

He added that the NU will consolidate multisectoral programs in ‘maslahat [benefit] of family’ campaign where the program will be adopted within a family, as the smallest social unit of society.

“All NU’s agenda, be it in economic, education, health, and religious sectors, must bring benefit to the family. We’re drawing up the plan. We have prepared the components and infrastructure; we just need to implement it,” he stated.

In addition to the program, PBNU will also follow up the Religion of 20 (R20) forum last year and NU’s international conference through the establishment of a long-term action plan in order to strengthen ideas generated from the international events.

This year, R20 forum will be held in two cities, New Delhi and Jakarta. India that holds the G20 presidency will convene the R20 forum in New Delhi, while Indonesia with its ASEAN presidency will organize R20 forum in Jakarta.

“Since the event in Jakarta will be held back-to-back with the ASEAN Summit, I asked approval from the President to use the ASEAN momentum to name the event as the R20 ASEAN. It’s indeed unusual since the R20 is initiated during the G20 [Summit], but we will convene the same event in the frame of ASEAN [Summit]. The President already approved it,” he remarked.
