President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo on Monday (9/12) summoned Chief of the Indonesian National Police General Idham Azis to the State Palace, Jakarta to ask for the progress of the investigation of the case of acid attack on the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigator Novel Baswedan.

“We have had significant clues on the case and are very optimistic to resolve this case immediately,” Head of Public Relations Division of the National Police Headquarters Inspector General M. Iqbal told reporters after the 2-minute meeting with the President.

According to Iqbal, the National Police will inform the public after the motives of the attack on the KPK investigator are revealed.

Insyaallah (God willing), it will be revealed in the near future,” Iqbal said, adding that the case will not be suspended.

For the record, the Polri has questioned 73 witnesses, searched 114 chemical shops, and checked 38 CCTV points examined by a scientific police forensic laboratory at the National Police Headquarters and in Australia.

For the record, the attack on Novel occurred on April 11, 2017, when two unidentified men threw acid at Novel’s face as the investigator was on his way home from morning prayers at a mosque near his house in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta. (TGH/RAH/ES)
