President Jokowi delivers his remarks on COVID-19 handling in Surabaya, East Java Province, Thursday (25/6).

A precondition is imperative for every region implementing “new normal” protocols, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has said.

“The appropriate timing is important. After the preconditions, it will be decided which regency or city (that will implement the new normal protocols),” the President said in his remarks on COVID-19 handling in Surabaya, East Java Province, Thursday (25/6).

The President went on to say that risk mitigation is pivotal in deciding priority sectors for the new normal, and the sectors with lower risks should be prioritized.

On that occasion, the President also said that he would closely monitor the implementation of massive tests, aggressive tracking, and health quarantine.

President Jokowi also invited all religious leaders and community leaders to disseminate information related to health protocols and the importance of wearing face masks, keeping a safe distance, and washing hands.

“I was notified by the Task Force that 70% (of East Java residents) do not wear masks. This is a huge number. Today I am asking the National Task Force and Minister of Health to send as many face masks as possible to Surabaya, to East Java,” the President said. (UN/EN)
