President Jokowi Instructs Governors to Build, Revamp Asian Games Sports Facilities
Presidential Instruction Number 3 of 2018 on the Acceleration of Construction and Repairment of Sports Facilities and Supporting Facilities for Asian Games XVIII 2018 and Asian Para Games III 2018 instructs Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), Governor of Special Capital Region of Jakarta (DKI Jakarta), Governor of West Java and Governor of South Sumatra to build and repair sports facilities and supporting facilities for the Asian Games and the Asian Para Games.
The Presidential Instruction instructs Governor of Jakarta to allocate budget, to provide sports facilities for basketball, BMX bike racing, and baseball, and to provide sport training venues for volleyball, basketball, handball and rugby at the Asian Games 2018.
For Asian Para Games, the President instructs Governor of DKI Jakarta to allocate budget and provide sports facilities and supporting facilities for boccia, bowling, chess, cycling, goal ball, judo, table tennis, sitting volleyball, wheelchair fencing and shooting.
Dictum 2 point 3c of the Presidential Instruction signed by President Joko Widodo on March 16, 2018 instructs the Governor of DKI Jakarta: “to plan, prepare, facilitate and coordinate the construction of all such facilities, and coordinate with the INASGOC and INAPGOC National Committee, and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.”
The Presidential Instruction also instructs Governor of West Java to allocate budget and maintain the following facilities: Rancamanik sports venue; roads in Subang regency, Majalengka regency, and West Bandung regency for cycling sports and road race; roads to Khe Bun Hill in Subang district for mountain bike, and to coordinate with INASGOC National Committee, Public Housing and Public Houses Ministry, and Ministry of Youth and Sports.
This Presidential Instruction further instructs Governor of South Sumatra to allocate budget and provide sports facilities and supporting facilities in Jakabaring, Palembang, for the 2018 Asian Games, to provide rollerblade and skateboard sports facilities and to coordinate with the INASGOC National Committee and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Dictum 3 of this Presidential Instruction requires Ministry and the Regional Governments to report on the progress of the acceleration of construction and repairement of the sports facilities and the supporting facilities within 3 months after the issuance of this Presidential Instruction or at any time as necessary.
The budget for the acceleration of construction of the sports facilities and the supporting facilities for the Asian Games comes from 2018 State Budget, while the budget for Asian Para Games 2018 is from the State Budget and Regional Budget, as well as other non-binding sources in accordance with the provisions of law.
The Presidential Instruction was issued on 16 March 2018 in Jakarta and shall come into force on the date of issuance. (Pusdatin/ES) (RI/EP/Naster)
