President Issues Decree on Declaration of COVID-19 as Public Health Emergency

Considering extraordinary widespread of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has signed Presidential Decree Number 11 of 2020 on the Declaration of Coronavirus Disease 2019 as Public Health Emergency.

The measure needs to be taken since the numbers of infections and death continue to increase in many countries that also affected economic, political, social and culture, defense and security aspects, as well as the people’s prosperity in Indonesia.

“(The Government) has declared COVID-19 a disease and risk of Public Health Emergency,” the First Dictum of the Presidential Decree reads.

In this Presidential Decree, the President also regulates that mitigation of COVID-19 in Indonesia must be conducted based on provisions of laws and regulations.

“This Presidential Decree shall apply as of the date of its promulgation,” the Third Dictum of the Presidential Decree which was signed by President Jokowi on 31 March 2020 reads. (EN)
