President Joko Widodo : All Airports to Connect Cities by Train, LRT or Tram

President Joko Widodo discussed with Ministry of Transportation when observing the construction of railway in Minangkabau Airport, Padang, on Saturday (10/10)

President Joko Widodo asserted that all airports in Indonesia will be connected to the cities either by train, Light Rail Transit (LRT) or tram. It all depents on the city.

However, according to the President, Minangkabau International Airport in Padang will be connected by train. “Insha Allah, the project will be finished next year. The train will connect station and the city, and connect station to airport through sky bridge. The project, Insha Allah, is all planned to be finished next year,” President Joko Widodo said when observing the construction of railway in Minangkabau International Airport, Padang, West Sumatra, on Saturday (10/10) afternoon.

According to the President, besides Padang, the construction of railway connecting Jakarta and Soekarno Hatta Airport, Jakarta will also be finished next year.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Transportation who accompanied the President in the event said that so far, there is no problem in the railway construction of Minangkabau International Airport. From 3.9 km railway, 2.9 km has been constructed completely.

“There is only 1 km left. I think this is a matter of time,” Minister Jonan said.

According to Minister Jonan, from the information he has received, there is no problem in land acquisition process in the railway construction connecting Padang and Minangkabau International Airport and in other issues.

“The most important thing is additional employees, because when the project finish, the train will be operated under State-owned railway company (KAI) and it definitely needs additional employees to operate it. Thus, I asked the Managing Director of (KAI) to employ one family member of the households which sold their lands that located in train tracks as an employee of KAI,” Minister Jonan added.

Accompanying the President in the event, besides Minister of Transportation Ignasius Jonan, were, the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono and the Minister of Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya. (DID/UN/GUN) (RAS/YM-Naster/Sy)
