After distributing land certificates to local residents, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo continued his working visit in West Kalimantan Province by heading to Navy Command Headquarters XII Pontianak, to inspect the development of Kapuas River Waterfront City.

Upon his arrival at the Navy Headquarters, the President boarded ‘Lemukutan’ Patrol Boat and sailed along Kapuas River to inspect Kapuas River Waterfront City connecting to Landak River which has been developed by the Central Government in collaboration with the provincial government and government of Pontianak City for three years.

“I already recognized that houses which used to be opposite the river, but now the houses are facing the river. The houses look neat; the greening of the area is going to be started. We will see the difference in another year or two. The development is almost done,” President Jokowi told the reporters.

The President explained that the Government is developing four settlements by the rivers, among others in the city of Bengkulu, Tegal, Semarang, and Pontianak. “Out of the four cities, this one is the best and the largest,” he added.

On that occasion, President Jokowi also expressed hope that development of the Waterfront City can be completed next year at the latest. Thus, the city and surrounding areas which will also be managed can become a model city (for waterfront city). (FID/RAH/ES)
