President Jokowi Affirms Commitment to Strengthen Global South Cooperation

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo held a bilateral meeting with President of the Republic of Kenya William Ruto, at the State House, Nairobi, the Republic of Kenya, Monday (08/21). During the meeting, President Jokowi mentioned that Indonesia and Kenya have long historical relations.

“Kenya and Indonesia have long historical relations since the Asia Africa Conference held in Bandung in 1955 and the 1961 Non-Aligned Movement,” the President said.

Therefore, during his visit to Kenya, President Jokowi would like to promote the spirit to strengthen the global south cooperation, same as the spirit embodied in the Asia Africa Conference held in Bandung in 1955.

“The Bandung Spirit that I bring to Kenya is a spirit to strengthen cooperation between global south countries,” President Jokowi said to the President of Kenya.

In addition, President Jokowi stated that bilateral relations between Indonesia and Kenya continue to grow closer through Indonesia’s foreign policy that pays a special attention to the African region in the last nine years.

“Indonesia has also been committed to strengthen cooperation with Kenya,” President Jokowi added.

Accompanying President Jokowi in the meeting were Coordinating Minister for Maritime and Investment Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Minister for Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi, Minister for Energy and Mineral Resources Arifin Tasrif, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, and Indonesian Ambassador to the Republic of Kenya Mohamad Hery Saripudin.
