President Jokowi Affirms Govt’s Support to Islamic Boarding Schools

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo affirmed that the Government is committed to provide more supports to Islamic boarding schools across Indonesia in the effort to produce noble human resources.

“We will give more concerns and supports to the Islamic boarding schools including the students (also known as santri) in developing human resources that have akhlakul karimah (good morals), high abilities and can compete with other countries,” said President Jokowi during a friendly visit to Girikesumo Islamic Boarding School, in Banyumeneng Village, Demak Regency, Central Java, Friday (10/19).

On the occasion, President Jokowi and K.H. Munif Muhammad Zuhri, caretaker of Girikesumo Islamic Boarding School, also discussed the National Santri Day issue which will be celebrated on October 22.

The President and his entourage then performed Maghrib prayer together with the residents of the Islamic boarding school.
