President Jokowi Applauded Evacuation of Indonesians from Wuhan

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo praised Government Ministries/Agencies that have assisted the evacuation of Indonesian citizens from Wuhan. The President also expressed his gratitude to residents of Natuna for welcoming the evacuees.

“I applauded what has been done by the team consisting of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the TNI (Indonesian National Defense Forces), the Polri (Indonesian National Police), Ministry of Health, the BNPB (National Agency for Disaster Mitigation) and Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture who have coordinated (the evacuation),” President Jokowi said after inspecting the landslide location in Bogor Regency, West Java Province, Monday (3/2).

The President said that the evacuation has been conducted very well in a very short time, returning Indonesian citizens from Hubei Province, Wuhan City to their home country.

“I also express my gratitude to the Natuna people who welcomed our brothers and sisters,” the President added.

On that occasion, President Jokowi also said that there were alternatives for the temporary placement of Indonesian citizens from Wuhan, including Morotai and Biak. Natuna was chosen due to its transportation and health facilities.

The President went on to say that the Government has also assessed the level of readiness of medical team in the region, adding that 243 Indonesian citizens from Wuhan were healthy but they should take several procedures, in accordance with health protocol, before they return to their family.

“The health protocol requires observation stage to ensure that the evacuees are clean so they can return to their families,” the President concluded. (FID/EN)
