President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has expressed appreciation and gratitude for the dedication, struggle and sacrifice of Indonesian doctors who have always been at the forefront in the prevention and management of health problems throughout the country.

“I’d like to express my highest appreciation and gratitude for the dedication, struggle and sacrifice of Indonesian doctors who have managed all health problems and provided services at health facilities in villages, in border areas, in outermost islands, and also in isolated areas,” President Jokowi said on a virtual speech during the commemoration of the 70th Anniversary of the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI), Saturday (24/10).

Especially in the midst of the current pandemic, the President said that the public see doctors as humanitarian fighters who have sacrificed their time and energy to save others.

The Head of State also expressed deep condolences to the families of the 136 doctors who have passed away while carrying out their duties to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The actions exemplified by doctors during the pandemic have inspired millions of people to help and care for each other, to unite and ease the burdens of others, to work together to overcome the pandemic, and to fight together to recover and rebound,” he added. (BPMI / UN)
