President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has praised governors’ measures in tackling the COVID-19 pandemic in their respective regions.

“Of all the parameters we have, Special Region of Yogyakarta has the best measure to handle the pandemic,” President Jokowi said during a meeting with governors across Indonesia at Bogor Presidential Palace in West Java province, Wednesday (7/15).

The President also mentioned four other provinces which have adopted the best methods in handling and controlling the pandemic, namely Bangka Belitung, Aceh, West Sumatra, and Gorontalo.

On that occasion, President Jokowi revealed that countries in the world have set a target of reducing fatality rate and increasing recovery rate as high as possible, while also controlling the rising number of positive cases.

“However, the focus is on the first two things. But it will be better if we can manage the entire aspects—reducing the number of positive cases and fatality rate as well as increasing recovery rate,” said President Jokowi.

The Head of State also ordered the governors to also join hand with other officials to work relentlessly during this challenging situation.

“Amid the situation like this, we cannot work in an ordinary way. As the economy and health are at stake, our works must change from ordinary (work) to extraordinary (work),” the President said.

The President also urged all officials to work in a fast and simple manner, while leaving complicated procedures behind as the Government is required to shift from working with normal procedures and to making an immediate breakthrough. (FID/EN)
