President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo extended his appreciation for the support of the Republic of Korea in the ASEAN-Indo-Pacific Forum (AIPF).

“Let me express my appreciation for the support [of the Republic of Korea] for the ASEAN-Indo-Pacific Forum. This is a concrete manifestation of inclusive cooperation to maintain stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region,” the President said at the opening the 24th ASEAN-Republic of Korea Summit at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), Jakarta, Wednesday (09/06).

The event was also attended by President of the Republic of Korea Yoon Suk Yeol and the delegation.

“The future partnership will only be achieved when regional stability is maintained, tensions and rivalries are reduced, strategic trust is strengthened and the habit of cooperation is enhanced. This is the responsibility of all of us in the Indo-Pacific region,” President Jokowi stated.

The President further said that the partnership between ASEAN and the Republic of Korea in the future would have energy transition and digital transformation as the main pillars.

According to the President, ASEAN must reduce 78 percent of fossil energy sources. At the same time, ASEAN has great potential in the digital economy. In the next decade, the digital economy in ASEAN is expected to contribute US$ 1 trillion to the region’s gross domestic product (GDP).

“The energy transition and digital transformation require significant investment and transfer of technology, so collaboration and partnership are needed to make it happen,” the President remarked.
