President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Sunday (05/14) expressed his appreciation to the Indonesian national team for their hard work at the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia.

Indonesia has so far secured 60 gold medals in the Games.

“I highly appreciate the medals which has reached 60 medals. Though the gold medal acquisition target is 60, I want it to exceed 69. I hope it can be realized,” the President said in a press statement after attending Peoples Conferences (Musra) at Istora Senayan, Jakarta, Sunday (05/14).

The Head of State also applauded the national football team who will go head-to-head in the final with Thailand. He also expressed belief that Indonesia will win the match since the team has a great fighting spirit.

“I am delighted that national football team has made it to the final. With a great fighting spirit and mentality which I consider as a winning mentality, it’s not surprising if we can win. Remember when the team only had 10 players, they’re still able to score another goal. That’s the winning mentality,” he stated.

On Saturday (05/13), Indonesian national football team advanced to the final after a dramatic 3-2 win over Vietnam.

The Indonesian team lost Pratama Arhan to a red card and had to play with 10 players. Nevertheless, Taufany Muslihuddin managed to score an injury-time goal that led Indonesia to become the winner.  (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/AIT) (RAS/EP)
